One of A-Supreme Foundation’s mandate in addressing the needs of seniors is to “allow seniors to live in dignity”. Unfortunately, with the average cost of senior housing ($3,552.00 per month) so high, it is impossible for the average senior to be able to afford what would be considered “such a luxury”.
The bottomline is that NOT MANY can afford to pay that much for housing, much less a pensioner, lesser yet, a pensioner from a low income sector of the community. Family members are no longer caring for their elderly loved ones, for a variety of reasons. With lack of proper, or affordable senior housing, many seniors are forced to live in a group settings, often where the operators are getting the maximum income from the residents while not giving much in return. The end result is cramped living spaces, among other unpleasant experiences for these seniors.
What is Housing Occupants Matching Effort (H.O.M.E.) Service for Seniors
In addressing the severe housing need that currently exists, and providing more services for seniors that are in line with our mandate, we have created the A-Supreme Foundation’s Housing Occupants Matching Effort (HOME) Service for Seniors. This program addresses the housing challenges faced by some seniors in Canada. Currently, this service will be offered only in Ontario, and for the initial launch, in the GTA and surrounding areas.
The essence of this service is to match individual seniors who are facing severe challenges in finding affordable housing within the GTA. These seniors are best described as those who are fairly self-sufficient, of sound mind, and may have a few years remaining before they are in need of ongoing care such as Skilled Nursing Care, or Continuous Care.
